Cleaning out the collection this weekend and an odd idea occurred to me. Anyone ever tried waterskiing on snow skis? We've done the water skimming in the spring at the bottom of the hill, but I'm wondering if a pair of old school 201 slaloms would provide enough lift to actually ski on.

OK, yes its labor day weekend and I'm ready for snow and race season ;)

I'm sure you could, as people have gotten up on much less sophisticated items. I'd be a little concerned about the boots releasing from skis in a crash, as well as if snow skis float or not, lol.

sure you could but better put on 2 PFD`s cause the weight of the boots and skis surely will pull you down fast if you fall........As teens we did use an old 7 foot wooden toboggan for a surfboard behind our 20 hp motorboat......had to put some duct tape on the joints outside to keep the water from squirting up ....lol

Legend has it the sport was invented doing a similar stunt. Of course that all depends on whether you believe water skiing was invented in Minnesota or Florida. Not much else you can do with those old straight boards anyways.

I think the old GS boards and Nordicas would be a bit tough to float on a deep water start - likely lacking a enough tip curve as well, but give it a try and let us know how it goes! I might suggest a 20 mph sliding dock start. :)

Dang why didn't I think of that I threw my old school snow ski's away.
We had a expert skiier see someone do it with small chunks of 2x4's duct taped to shoes he tried it without sucsese. I told him to use 2x6 pcs. next time.
please post results I want to see.

I've done it, and it works fine. Wet ski boots are sure heavy.

Going the other way, I tried a pair of waterskis on snow towed behind the four wheeler. Tracking fins are a real drag. Fail.

Here's one of my snow skis that I wouldn't even consider trying on water. I doubt that I could get the weight back far enough to keep a monoski up.

Sweet. At least no prob. keeping the tips together. I haven't seen one of those in quite a while. Looks fun.
A waterski bud of mine rides a slalom board (square back snowboard within hardshell boots mounted about 45 degrees forward)
