Re: Anyone ever rent a houseboat in Michigan?
As I noted there aren't too many places in Michigan to rent a house boat.
In fact the only widely advertised location that I'm aware of is on Crooked Lake which is a part of the inland water way that includes Crooked Lake, Crooked River, Burt Lake, Indian River, Mullet Lake and the Cheboygan River.
While I can't comment on the houseboats and what is offered, I will say that the inland waterway is a great place to spend a week or long weekend. I would highly reccommend the trip even if in just a small runabout. There are many hotels, cottages, and/or camping locations that are right on the water.
If you are looking for an experience like one would get on Lake Powell or other popular houseboating destinations, I really dont think anywhere in Michigan offers a similar experience. The inland lakes are all pretty populated and not as big as the large resevoirs elsewhere in the country and house boats are not at all suited for use on the Great Lakes.
I LOVE BOATING IN MICHIGAN. The variety is astronomical and the fact that you are literally surrounded by water means there are essentially limitless choices for boating locations. Houseboats just aren't that popular. I'm sure there are mom and pop establishments around that will rent a houseboat and I'm sure the experience would be wonderful, you just don't hear about it like you do elsewhere.
Is there a particular location in Michigan that you plan to vacation?
