Anyone ever join a "Boat Club" to get out on the Water?

Been looking at older used boats, newer cheap boats, every option we can consider to get back on the water. Lately my wife and I have been considering joining a boat club. Annual fee, reserve your boat ahead of time, just go down get on enjoy, bring it back and let someone else maintain and clean it. With a one year old daughter, and limited time and funds as result, we have been seriously considering this option. Plus we can have a smaller sporty boat for water skiing or tubing one weekend, and a larger cruiser to overnight on another. Another possible plus is the ability to reserve a boat in other areas (like Florida) if we are on vacation. Anyone have any experience with any of these clubs, freedom boat club (http://www.freedomboatclub.com) in particular??

~Scott & Nadia
'01 Yamaha LS2000
"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up to much space!

freedom boat club is a joke. There boats are always dirty. You can't ever get the one you want when you want it. They consistently underpower them. And they're always "strippies" as far as features and accessories go.

I guy I work with belongs to a boat club and an airplane club. But the clubs he belongs to require that the members do the cleaning and share the operation and mainenance expense. It is not the cheapest way to own a share in a boat, but he does get it when he wants it most of the time, it is clean, has all the goodies that the members can afford to install.

He does put in a lot of time, and gets dues credit for taking on extra service duties.

A great deal for single or married with no family responsabilites, but it does take $$$ and time.

Interesting question, good input so far. I'd really like to hear more folks experiences. There were a couple clubs around here and we've pretty much heard exactly what RF was saying. I think both those clubs were gone pretty quickly but now we see the "Freedom" club (I believe) showing up again.

The club Marks buddy belongs to sounds pretty good.

The first rule of Boat Club is - you do not talk about Boat Club. The second rule of Boat Club is - you DO NOT talk about Boat Club.
