Anyone ever hear of Bahama boats?

As a manufacturer, not a model. I am looking at a 78 bahama and can't find any info on it. And yes, I am sure. The manufacturer plate says it is manufactured by Bahama boats in California. Plate on the back says the same. My insurance company has never heard of it, neither has nada.

The boat is a open bow tri-hull, with a volvo penta 4cyl and 280 outdrive, so the parts should be available easy enough, I just find it odd that otherwise the boat does not exist.

I have been searching the internets, but a search term like 'bahama boats' isn't exactly unique.

Thanks!

I couldn't find anything, either, but there were tons of small boatbuilders in California in the late 70s. They had a mold...they had a glass chopper, and they built some boats, then went out of business.

I remember one in my home town. They built probably 100 boats...all the same model, then went bankrupt. There's nothing on the web about them, because it was too long ago, and there just isn't the interest.

I'm betting that you have one such boat. Not that there's anything wrong with it...it could be a great boat, but those small builders just couldn't compete with the big boys, and most didn't survive.

Does it have a serial number on that plate? Like BAHXXXXXXXX or something?
My Wellcraft is WELXXXXXXXXXX...

Check out this link http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic_database.htm You can put in the serial number, 3 letter manufacture's code. state and possibly get the mfg's name and address. It is the Coast Guard data base of manufacturers - it should go back to at least 1978.

DING DING! We have a winner! According to that link, the MIC is XAA, manufacturer is BAHAMA INDUSTRIES INC and it looks like they went under(bad pun, I know) in 1980. Here's all the info that exists:

OUT OF BUS 03/80 - COMPANY PURCHASED 08/8708/87:5612 E LA PALMA/ANAHEIM, CA 92807/TYPE 11 & 142ND NEW CONTACT MYLES FOSTEROOB BSC 73 RETD 920218 MIC REACTIVATED BY MYLES FOSTER ON 11/20/96. 1/21/99 REPORTED BY MARINE SURVEYOR THAT THIS PHONE NUMBER DOES NOT WORK AND THE PHONE COMPANY HAS NO LISTTING FOR MILES FOSTER OR BAHAMAS IND

Now I just hope that the boat is OK. It runs good and floats, so far so good!
