Anyone else have a gas spitter?

So I bought an 87 Seville today and when I gassed it up on the trailer it spit the gas back. Did not matter how fast or slow I put it in, or how deep or shallow I inserted the nozzle. In a 10 gallon add, it spit back 3 times, and each time gas came out the vent as well... Anyone else experience this?

That came up on the wrong post. What I meant to say was mine lets a little out of the vent from time to time when moving it around the yard. Never spit out of the fuel line. .

I have a 1998 Sundancer and have the EXACT same problem. I have traced the vent hose as far as I could. My filler has the vent built into it, next to the fill hole. I have ran a clotheshanger down the vent hole with NO resistance and checked it for kinks. I cannot for the life of me figure this out, glad to hear I am not the only one with this issue. It seems pretty unlikely that any critter (spider, bee, etc.) could have built any kind od nest in the vent since it is under cap all of the time. Let me know if you figure this out my emailing me at rpmorris412@yahoo.com Thanks

That is hilarious!!! Sorry, but I was just about to do the same exact post. I have a 92 180B/R and it does the same thing.

After looking at the setup (long flat gas tank, filler hose coming in on side) the best conclusion I could come up with is that the added fuel sloshing back and forth causes it to come back.

Tomorrow I am going to try to disconnect the trailer from my Expedition, lower the wheel all the way, and then fuel. That way all fuel sitting in the tank will be at the front of the tank, and should not cause the sloshing as much, hopefully.

Just a thought, I will let you know how it goes tomorrow, but it seems to make sense, right?

I sure had one, I had to lean the boat to the starboard side or mine would spit rite in my chest, because my vent was rite by my filler cap.

Well, no luck. The vent for my fuel tank is on the bow, but the fuel comes right back out the filler hose. I tried lowering the wheel, but same result. I tried barely squeezing the gas pump, still did it. The funny thing is, I can still add about 8 gallons after the initial spraying.

I had the same problem on my 86 268DA, I removed the mesh screen from the vent, now it takes fuel full speed from the high speed pumps at the marina, no spitting, no fuel in the water, no waiting 45 mins for 50 gallons.

Cheers,

Randy.
