Anyone boating the north shore of Lake Erie around Long Point

I've been boating the Trent Severn waterway for almost fifty years but we moved last fall to get closer to the grand kids. We have a slip in Port Rowan harbour for our 26 foot this season.
Boating one of the great lakes is something total new for me and I'm a little apprehensive. I'm wondering if anyone has any personal experience that I could draw on. Other than check the weather forecasts closely.
