I am taking the family to Lake Elsinore this weekend for some camping, skiing, and fishing. We are renting an RV and having it delivered to the Lake Elsinore Marina. I have only been there once to test the boat after some repairs, but it seemed pretty nice for a local lake. Has anyone been there? What did you think? Any advice -- skiing, fishing...?

Thanks

Hi SDS..It's been many years since I have been to Elsinore. I think they have cleaned up the lake and shoreline since then. There used to be some hazards over towards the east end of the lake, like fencing and poles that weren't removed before it filled. The middle of the lake used to be the speed zone where boats could go basically unchecked, speed-wise, so be careful out there if it's still like that. It's a pretty small lake.
It will be HOT there this weekend, so keep that in mind. Hopefully the RV park is shaded. Putting around fishing and such, you should have a great time with the family. Let us know how it goes

Thanks 12vMan. Yes, I have read that they have cleaned up the lake and did something to allow it to hold more water (year round now instead of getting shallow in the summer). I will definitely ask about hazards. I will let you know how it goes.

As I can recall a few years ago a young man died of a rare bacteria in the lake, I been out here in the IE for years and it was called the mud puddle now I have not seen it in years, but I have read that it has been really cleaned up and the city has put a lot of money into and new launch ramp boat rentals etc; let us know how it turns out and have a great time.

One day here and it is great! We are having a great time. The campground is awesome and we had a great day on the lake. Tons of boats, but most were parked at party cove all day and were not seen out on the lake. Wakeboarding knee boarding, and water skiing were great.

The only complaint I have is that there were way to many jet skis/wave runners out there today. They really have no clue how to behave on the water, especially when you have a kid in tow.

OK. Just got home from 3 days at Elsinore. I posted about day 1 (Sunday) above. Monday and Tuesday were even better. There were almost no boats on the lake and it stayed totally glassy until after 2 pm. Oh yeah, major bonus on weekdays -- only a few jet skiers. Most had no clue what they were doing on the water, but there were less than 10 on the entire lake.

One negative to some people is that the water is noticeably green. Even the white wash behind the boat has a green tint. However, it didn't bother us. No smell or funny taste (didn't drink it, but who doesn't get a little in their mouth or up their nose when they crash). Plus, there wouldn't have been hundreds of boats on the water over the weekend or several new boat launches under construction if there was any health risk. Heck, Big Bear Lake was green last time we went.

Oh yeah, the police are very active on this lake. They were pulling people over, kicking people out, and giving tickets all day Sunday. However, as a family guy, I don't see that as a bad thing. I don't want drunk boaters or idiot jet skiers going 60 mph in the wrong direction on the water.

We will definitely be going back. I really wish I hadn't been scared away for so long.

I will post some videos when I get the chance.

Finally, here are a few videos. They are just of the kids, but you can get a good look at the lake in the background.

Here are some videos -

This cove had around 100 boats in it the day before. Much nicer (for us) on a weekday.
