Does anybody tow with an Isuzu Trooper, it has a 3.5L, 215 HP, V6 engine. And if anybody does, whats the max they can tow with without causing harm to the transmission and engine? All reply's are appreciated.

Re: anybody tow with an isuzu trooper?

I do. 2001 Trooper. Rated for 5000# towing. Tows beautifully with my 4000# boat and trailer.

I have not towed in the mountains, and suspect it would be somewhat underpowered with 4000# on the back, but that is to be expected with a 215 HP, V6 engine.

Not that this is a factor, or because of what I am towing, but on my last outing I was coming back and suddenly had smoke everywhere. Limped to a repair station to find out that the front pump seal on the transmission blew out and I had transmission fluid everywhere.

God love Isuzu. Called them. Trooper has a 120K mile/10 year warranty. They arranged for a tow, took care of the billing, and replaced the transmission.

I suspect they have a problem with these seals, but they took care of it beautifully. 60K miles on the car, and aside from oil & tires that is the only thing I have had to have replaed. (still on the original brake pads).

Love it

Jack L,
My trooper is a 98 with 28,000 miles on it and no warranty left. Anything I can do to prevent the seal from breaking or the transmission blowing, throw an extra transmission cooler in there or something?

Should have a lot of warranty left on the drive train - 10 year 120K miles.

Don't know how prevelent the seal failure is or anything. The dealer told me it had nothing to do with towing though.
