you could make something like that yourself, ultra crude would be a block of wood cut as a V, screw a $5 tail light to it, then a bungee around the outdrive.

But I agree, it's a good idea.

Why?

Doesn't your trailer already have lights? Lights are a legal requirement of the trailer, not the boat.

$50 would be alittle steep but it might be worth a couple bucks for the added safety especially if your lower unit extends way behind the trailer lights.

I have never liked the idea of having brake lights that are close to the ground. A while back they found it decreased your chances for getting rear ended whe you have lights that are higher up. That is why cars have required the rear deck stop light for years.

I have thought about buying a couple of light bars and adding them to the trailers guides on the side, or making a bar that I could attached to the swim platform that would plug into the trailer lights.

My taillights are already up on the guide-ons - no need for submersible lights plus don't have to unplug to launch/load.

But I just hate the thought of introducing my skeg to somebody's radiator. :)

I was thinking about mounting a row of LEDS on something that could be strapped to the LU.

If you did add a light in the center, I wonder would it have to function as brake *and* taillight?

jt- i bet it only has to function as a brake light....you never see cars or trucks with a third brake like that and have the third light acting like a tailight.

ridman? have you ever been rear ended by someone when you are towing a boat? I can tell you it aint pretty, and if you tow a lot at night depth perception suffers. Not all trailors are created equally either. My lights on the guide posts like jt's, but if I mounted them on the trailer the lights end up partialy under the boat and arent very easy to see from behind at certain heights and distances. Maybe yours arent like that, and your trailor is better designed, but not everyones is. I am also thinking of adding something like that. the transome same makes it stick out more that i would like.

looks cool but the person will be looking at the light and probably run into to your lower unit cause there looking at cool light had a boat trailer with lights mounted up high and i always tore them off loading the boat. just a thought.to the person that said lights are to low.

It depends on how you mount the lights, as to whether or not they may or may not get torn off of light posts.

I personally dont trust doing that with the pvc variety. I have seen those get torn off. Mine are handmade out of 1 inch pipe, with the lights being attached to a bracket that is welded on.
