Hello everyone, Does anyone know the proper running temp on a C85TLRP? I keep getting an overheat alarm after about 1 min of WOT. Have changed the water pump, thermostat, and PCV..........still getting the alarm!!! Last time out I shot the block with an infared temp gun, average temp was 125-130 the highest I saw was 168 near the sensor. That was about 1 min after slowing to idle after running WOT with sensor removed from block. Last time I got the alarm I immediately pulled the hood and put my hand on the block, it was hot but I could leave my hand there for 5-8 secs without getting burned. So what do yall think, still a cooling problem or a sensor malfunction?

test the switch to see where it changes state
If it opens and closes when it should then you probably have cooling passages that need cleaning out.

service manual will give temps stat and switch opens and closes

Thank you for your reply. When you say the switch opening and closing, are you refering to the sensor or the thermostat? And I've never had a manual so I'm just hoping someone knew where to find the specs and just going on luck.

Are you sure your motor has a sensor and not a switch? they are different things.

the specs can be found in the service manual for your motor,
not sure why someone would not buy a manual if they want to work on it themselves.

Hold on and someone with that specific motor and bought a service manual for it may see your post and give you the info you want

ok just checked the switch, it sets the alarm off at 170 degrees alarm silences at 150 degrees this seems mighty cool to be going into safe mode

really wish I had a manual

ok just bought a manual, it'll be here in 6 - 10 days maybe I can begin to figure this thing out. Also started a series of cooling system flushes today, guess I'll do those almost daily until all the flushing agent is gone and my money is wasted

ok Yamaha masters Got my repair manual in hand and I'm still confused. My temp switch is tripping and alarming at 170 degrees, manual says it trips at 183 - 194 So yall think I've got a overheat problem or a switch problem, or maybe both?
