Any way to pump fuel from gas can to 3.5 hp

I have a 3.5 hp 2 stroke that holds about 1/3 gal of fuel and cannot use an external tank. It uses about 1/2 gal an hour so I have to stop and refill every 45 minutes or so. Is there any way to rig up something to transfer fuel from an external source. I don't want to pollute but pouring from a 1, 2.5 or 5 gallon can withhout missing or overfilling when the wind is kicking up is not easy.

What make and model engine, Harrisg?

Some engines can have a fuel pump added to use a remote tank. A really creative wrench can convert any 2 stroke to do this.

The motor is a 3.5 hp 2005 Tohatsu. Perhaps I should have put this on the Honda, Nisson, Tohatsu board but if you know how this could be done I'd appreciate it. If it can't be done, is there a way to transfer from a regular gas can to the fuel opening on top of the outboard without lifting the can?

As a safety issue I wouldn't try transferring gas on a boat, harrisg.

Perhaps one of our other members can recommend what fuel pump to get and how to adapt it.

I will move this to the Tohatsu Troubles forum.

There is no official Tohatsu way to do this. They no longer offer a fuel pump optional part and there is no longer a boss on the engine to connect it to.

How about using a small 2.5 gallon Tempo portable fuel tank avabilable at any of the discount stores. Purchase a hose barb that fits the tank, a suitable hose clamp, and a primer bulb and hose. When you need to refuel, squeeze the primer bulb to pump fuel into the tank. If you hold the tank above the engine, gravity will do the work for you. You will need some sort of shut-off valve after the primer bulb to prevent siphoning fuel out of the tank into the boat.

Thank you everyone. I was thinking that the tank, gas line and bulb would work but I wasn't sure.

I have seen tube with handpumps that are made for transferring fuel from one tank or can to another. As I recall, you can buy them here locally at Bi-Mart for under $10.00. I almost bought one the other day.
