Any type of adheasive for seal?

I am about to install the Gimbal housing back to the boat after the transom rebuild
97' sx cobra
i am replacing the gasket/seal that sits against the transom is there any type of adhisive or anything i need to put on it?
or any tips and tricks?

The seal gets glued into the gimbal housing to hold it in place, but there is no sealer between the gasket and the transom.
The seal is a rope like seal. Don't stretch it when installing in the transom shield, and make a tight butt joint at the top of the housing.
