Yes I took the splash plate off, spent 5 hr wedging it out an inch. I've got it supported with a chain hoist. I've spun it around and shook the hell out of it. Next I'll be using a come along from a brace across the front seats, but I was hoping there might be a trick I've missed, Thanks

Do you have the upper gear case and driveline Off? All six bolts are out of clamp ring? Exhaust hose between manifold and exhaust tube off enough? I had to really soak both sides of the bell housing with PB blaster because mine had such a heavy coat of oxide. Didn't think I was ever going to get the lock ring off. If I remeber correctly there should be some extra holes in the lock ring that are threaded to allow you to use your lock ring bolts to push the lock ring off.

I take this as you are separating the motor from the flywheel cover, right?, and leaving the flywheel cover in the transom shield?

Once the bolts are removed, the only thing that will cause the two to not separate would be the some pretty darn good rust at PDS splines, drive coupler splines and possibly the centering bearing at the pilot nose.
Some people end up boring a small 1" hole in the flywheel cover to access the flywheel drive coupler bolts.
If you can loosen the drive coupler from the flywheel, the PDS might come free from the centering bearing and the motor/flywheel cover will separate.
This is not all that uncommon and you may end up doing that. A nice round hole being there should not cause a problem.
