any special precautions for de-carbing an efi?

I am ready to perform the first de-carb of my 2004 115efi which now has 180 hours on it. The engine sees 95% of its use trolling at no more than 2,500 rpm's. The engine is still under warranty and the manual states that Power Tune should be used for de-carb. I have used this product for years on 2-strokes with great results but its easier with them as you just shoot it right down the carbs. With all this efi stuff on my engine, do I simply spray the product into the air intake screen on the air box or what? EFI's can be trickly animals and I don't want to damage anything. Neither the manual nor the label on the product say how to properly apply this spray to an efi engine. Any tips?

Try using Kwik Kleen instead of Power Tune, Works just as well (IMHO)<br />Cheers

Thanks, I have experience with both products, POWER TUNE and KWIK KLEEN. I agree the latter is a good product and "cuts down" on carbon formation "in between" regular de-carb treatments but it is not a replacement, only an enhancement. The factory clearly states to use POWER TUNE every 100 hours and I do a great deal of low-speed trolling so carbon will find its way inside. You can't go wrong following factory guidance, especially if there is a warranty isue down the road. Perhaps a call to Merc customer service is in order.

I have a 225 EFi, I use power tune every year, I spray it into the air intake as I would a carbed engine. I also use the Quickleen, with every tank of gas, 11 seasons no problem. Good Luck, Joe
