Any Rochester Area Boaters?

I am looking at getting a runabout. I am interested in going to the finger lakes, Irondiquot bay, exploring the Erie canal, and maybe even going on Lake Ontario. Any suggestions on places and sites to see, advice, words of wisdom and even caution.

I use to sail a 22ft Catalina on a small lake down in Texas and my grandfather use to take us skiing and tubing when I was younger.

I would suggest something with a cuddy cabin, be it however basic. The ability to sleep on the boat will open up alot of doors for weekend trips on the Erie Canal and Finger Lakes. Most marinas have showers, etc. so the boat does not need to be big and include more than a safe place to sleep.

The cuddy will also be a bit safer on Lake Ontario if there are any waves.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I beat you to it. I got a 19ft Maxum Cuddy, I just got it this past Sunday.

Welcome to boating in cny. I boat out syracuse way. Canal is great to get around. Concerts on the water thur and sat in baldwinsville at lock 24 on budweisers papermill island amphitheater. $50 a year gets you canal lock access. You'll have to go thru several to get my way. I live in A good section of the canal as I really only have one lock each way to go from Cayuga/Seneca lakes to cross lake to Onondaga to Oneida
