Nice survey walleyehed, I guess now the only thing I need to do is determine if there is any benefit to switching to SS.

I had thought my Merc 1-888 prop was a 15.25. I just went out and measured the diameter of a spare but slightly chewed up prop and it only measured 13.5", (unlike my OMC, the hub only shows the pitch, not the diameter)

Looking on the prop chart in my Merc manual, it shows a 15.25" prop for that drive/motor, boat length/weight combo. So I am a little confused now. I'll have to check the prop dia. that is currently on the boat.

RIght now im nose deep in 3-4 blade ss props, i can tell you a 4bl-ss is one smooth machine. It also ( depend's on the style) lift's the boat quite a bit higher out of the water making it smoother on a good chop.

The christmas season is coming and the wife is begining to watch the cash flow with a lot of detail other wise i would be adding a fuel flow meter, it would be intresting to see if it also provides better econ.......... by spring ill get handled.

Umm if you get a 19 the race is on..........8)

the 13.5 diam. should be for 13 spline gearcases, not your 15 spline 888.

Just to verify that I am measuring right, I made a dot on the garage floor. I centered the prop over the dot then ran a square up to the tip of each blade and marked it on the floor. I then took a set of calipers and measured from the dot out to the blade tip marks. That sound good?

I don't know why Merc props don't have a diameter stamped on them, but maybe this prop had been previously repaired and cut down. It is a 15 spline and stamped 21 on the hub but had been a spare prop in the boat when I got it. I will definitely measure the prop that is on the boat.

While I am figuring it all out, hypothetically, do you think there would be any benefit of a SS 15.25 x 19p, such as the Apollo, over a cupped 15.25 x 19p standard aluminum prop?

yes...better efficiency, likely a bit more speed at all power settings while on plane.
Personally, I won't run aluminum anymore unless I'm in 2-3ft water loaded with rocks.

What does the WM stand for Sorrento? I assume you have a twin drive setup?
