I've been going to Lake Winnibigoshish in MN and just recently got a Muskie pole. Anybody fish this body of water for anything besides eyes. Sure would like to get a trophy this year. Anyone want to share their honey holes with me? Strictly catch and release so they'll still be there for you.

Re: Any Muskie Hunter's?

Howdy, 495v. Been musky hunting for 30 years. I would rather get skunked on LOTW than catch fish anywhere else I've ever been.<br /><br />I have fished Big Sissabagama a few miles south of Hayward, Bone Lake in Wis., Minnetonka, Leech and Lake Of The Woods. LOTW is easily worth the extra four or five hour drive. Haven't fished Winnebigoshish, but plan to try Lac Seuel and Eagle if I ever get bored with LOTW.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . .<br />JB :)

Thanks J.B.; I've done quite a bit of fishing in the Hayward area. Use to go to Nelson Lake every year when I was growing up. Have you ever hunted Muskie's in Winter, WI(about 40miles east of Hayward.) Lake Winter is supposed to be one of the best Musky lakes around.

I'm surprised with the lack of Muskie hunter's here. I hear alot about saltwater fishing, and nothing about fresh. Any BASSmaster's out there?

Re: Any Muskie Hunter's?

Hi, 495v.<br /><br />Never fished near Winter. <br /><br />I have a passion about wilderness. I like to go hours or even days without seeing another boat. I tow 1500 miles to the Northwest Angle to get that kind of fishing environment. My son feels the same way. We have fished Muskys together since he was about 6 (he turned 36 last month).<br /><br />Last year we saw 6 or 8 boats every day except one. Thinking about Georgian Bay after I finish restoring my Boston Whaler Outrage 18. We have been fishing from my Montauk 17 on LOTW but think we need a bigger boat with greater range for Georgian Bay.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . .<br />JB :)

Re: Any Muskie Hunter's?

It must be a hall for you to go from Texas up to Minn / Canada. LOTW is on the Canadian side right? Maybe next year I will plan my trip up that way instead of MN. Any brochures available for the lodge you stay at?

Re: Any Muskie Hunter's?

We have stayed at Angle Outpost the past 7or8 years. Nice people, reasonable prices. BUT It is a fishing camp, not a resort. Great cabins, modest store in the lodge for food & tackle. Excellent guides (We still use a guide 1 to 3 days when we are there).<br />There is NO recreation or entertainment for non-fishing guests.<br /><br />Go to: www.fishandgame.com/angleoutpost <br /><br />Red sky at night. . .<br />JB :)

Re: Any Muskie Hunter's?

Been Muskie fishing for 5 years. Biggest muskie I have caught was 40". Ever tried Kentucky waters. Green River Lake and Cave Run Lake have produced large muskies. It takes a certain breed to be muskie fisherman or in my case fisherwoman. Enjoy the fishing but enjoy being on the water.

Re: Any Muskie Hunter's?

Wow! If your not already taken, you'll be a great catch for these outdoorsmen. My wife fishes with me and loves it, but she's still comin around. I couldn't imagine here catching a muskie that size. She once got a 10lb sailfin cat in the Gulf of Mexico and it nearly pulled her overboard. It was the funniest thing. Anyway's, no I've never been to any Kentucky waters. Supposed to go to Kentucky lake this summer for some largemouths. I've been muskie fishing only once, had some follow ups and some hooks that I lost but it was exciting anyways. Would love to get one this year. If you have any links on the places you mentioned, I would love to check them out.

Re: Any Muskie Hunter's?

No I'm not taken, divorced but my ex-husband started me muskie fishing. I'm a member of Muskies, Inc. Kentucky Chapter. I recently purchased a Ranger boat with a 175 hp engine. I think I've lost my mind. It's the first boat I've owned. I'm trying to learn the mechanics of it and the expertise of backing down a ramp. haha. If you ever get to Green River try Blue Hole. I've seen several muskies in there. hdjojo@zoomtown.com

Re: Any Muskie Hunter's?

I live in northern Ky and started fishing for muskie on Cave run last year. Tony Grant, a muskie guide on Cave run caught a new state record last year. Check his story and pictures out (http://www.kymuskie.com/kentucky.htm).<br />I am still learning alot about muskie fishing. It takes a lot of patience and time on the water. I'm glad to hear from someone local on this forum (Jvenable). My cousin bought a boat off Greg Thomas. Greg is a muskie guide on Cave run and Green River. He took my cousin out on Cave run last fall as part of the boat deal. My cousin landed (9)! muskie in one day on Cave run. That says a lot for Greg's knowledge and I would recommend him to you if you ever want a muskie guide. I'm trying to learn the old fashion way, but I also think a guide is a great way to learn a lake and techniques. Jvenable, next time you head to the Cave, let me know I will give you my 2 cents worth. I have been trying to get on the lake at least once a week since first of the year. I also bought a 94 Ranger 481vs (Merc 150XRi) last spring and love it.

Re: Any Muskie Hunter's?

You gotta love those Ranger's. I purchased a used Ranger Comanche 495v in Feb. It's got an i/o 350 Mercruiser. I always thought I wanted an outboard but I find advantages with both. Anyway's good to hear about some Muskie tips in new places. <br /><br />Jvenable, I'm a newbie too, and practice makes perfect. Just don't launch your trailor with the boat like I read on this message forum about the two ladies who had boat troubles. This site will probably be my #1 resource for boat advice. It's great.

Re: Any Muskie Hunter's?

Join Muskies, Inc. You can go to meetings once a month and you get a magazine with your membership and also fish the tournaments. Usually we have a speaker who is qualified to tell you guys about the strategies to catch musky. We've had Tony Grant at our meeting and yes I know all about his record muskie. Greg Thomas has also been to our meetings: Greg is a good friend of mine. We used to have a houseboat on Cave Run and he would visit us there. He's a real die hard fisherman. If your cousin landed 9 in one day, maybe I should fish with Greg. Where do you live in Kentucky? I live in Ohio near Cincinnati. By the way I almost forgot to put my plug in the first time I went to Green River. Greg also guides there. It takes lots, and lots and lots of patience to catch a muskie. It was 3 years before I caught my first one but it was a nice 37"er.

Re: Any Muskie Hunter's?

I just went to the website and checked out the Kentucky state record...WOW! what a beast. That would be a dream come true for me. I wonder if Tony hung it on the wall since it didn't make it. I'm normally a catch and release kinda guy, but I would have definately wanted to hang that sucker on the wall. What a nice fish. I certainly have to visit this Cave Run you guy's and gal's are speaking of. Anyone know what kind of rates Tony charges? And of course the man rides in style with a Ranger!!!!

Type in Kentucky Mountain Muskie and it should bring you up to the guide service site. Try it and let me know. I'll find out for you.

Re: Any Muskie Hunter's?

Jvenable and 495, you need to get pic's of your Rangers on the "my rig" post in the boating forum. It hasn't had any new posts in quite a while. It is on page 4 in the boating section of this forum near the bottom of the page. 495, check out <br />Greg Thomas's site (http://www.battlethebeast.com/index.html)he also guides the Cave.

The website I found was very limited, only a webpage. I did enter the raffle and am now signed up to recieve periodical updates from them. We''ll see what they send. If you have any other info I would appreciate it. It is definately something I would like to put together.

Cave Run gide service is under kymuskie.com. It has all the rates. Yes I've seen Greg's website. It's great. If I knew how to post a picture I would.
