Jus' bought a 1996 bass boat (18' Stratus) with a Johnson 150 HP on it. Model # J-150ELED, serial #G04150845. Looks like a cream puff. VRO is out of order and has been run on premix since???? Any issues with this motor or year that should be looked into other than the standard new owner pre inspection before run?

Nothin' that I know of Mark. 60 degree looper will set ya' back in the seat.

I would get all the info from the previous owner I could. When was the last impeller change, carb overhaul, last time a decarb was done, compression? Look at the lower unit lube for water and sparklers (metal). Was it winterized.....Oh....Florida....welllll, we do it in Ohio anyway... :)

Find out where he had the servicing done and see if they keep record. Look for any big problems.

If she's clean and green...should be a go.

Already planned impeller, fuel pump, carb rebuild and checking lower unit...jus' unfamilar with this particular engine and looking for trouble before it starts....no records on engine. VRO is not enabled for some reason. Thanks

The 96 didnt have VRO. Its a straight ratio pump. It will vary some but basically it injects a steady mix. I still run the oil pump on my 93 150 60 degree. Keep water out of the oil tank and youre good to go.

Just look real close at #1 cylinder. The only real issue was some had or would develop a water leak on #1. It can be fixed but thats the only real issue any of them had.

Great motors! Good sounding rig.
