Got this boat late last season and didn’t use the top, but now we’re in the heat of mid summer and I need to put it up. Can’t find anything on instructions. No literature out there. The top snaps onto the windshield but I can’t seem to get the poles lined up where the will fit into the brackets. Any help appreciated! Thanks.

first, welcome aboard

second, if it snaps too the windshield, its a convertible top

Bimini tops generally may only have a strap to the front if they have one at all

being a 30 year old boat, your canvas may have shrunk, or the canvas on the boat is not original to the boat (because canvas usually only lasts about 10-15 years)

with a convertible top, you have the bow in the brackets, you snap the forward edge snapped to the windshield, then you pull the aft straps back to the rear stays and cinch it tight

Thanks for the welcome! It’s in really good shape and the second owner said he never used it because it’s too low for him. So it’s a convertible top eh? Interesting. Thanks for the info.

putting a convertible top up in summer is like stepping into a sauna. it is actually about 15-20 degrees warmer because there is no air flow

they were intended to extend the boating seasons in northern climates, to allow you to boat earlier in the year and later in the year as well as boat in the rain.

We usually have a 50% chance of rain In the Ohio valley every day during the summer. I’d really need it more in case of a pop up shower but my wife wants to keep the cooler out of the sun as well.

Having had both a convertible and a Bimini....they're both hotter than hades. I prefer to leave them down so as to not trap hot air under it.

What can mitigate that some on a convertible cover is IF the center section unzips then you might get a bit of air flow.

We had a camper/convertible top with our boat, but we never use it. Too low (not enough headroom for me) and too hot to use in the summer. If we boated in late Fall, it might be more useful, but we don't go out past September, usually.

We bought a bimini and it is worth it's weight in gold. I don't find it hotter under the bimini; on the contrary getting out of the sun makes boating on warm, sunny days much more comfortable. The nice thing about a bimini is you can have one that shades as much (or as little) of the boat as you want. You also can get whatever height you want; I'm 6'3" and I often stand when driving the boat, so our bimini has about 6.5' clearance from the deck.

I have to agree.

Funny how people who want to go out to “get some sun” end up crowding under the hardtop sooner than later.

I keep the enclosure up on my hardtop the better part of the year. Keeps the sun off, keeps things dry and is part of my “out of site out of mind“ scheme.

Dint get the hot argument. If it gets to warm just open the window(s) or turn the fan on

We boat in the Ohio River Valley near Cinti. We purchased a large and tall bimini several yrs ago. I think it's about 8ft long. Im 6.8 and can stand under it. It works great. It keeps the sun off during the middle of the day, until the sun is lower in the sky. Its helped with rain a little bit if you stand in the center. Its definitely better than chasing clouds if there are some around.
