Tom,
I live here in Littleton CO and fish Lake trout mainly through the ice, but I may be able to get you in touch with some guys who are good at catching them in June. Send me an e-mail at fishinlooney@aol.com and I'll see what I can do.
Jeff

Re: Any Colorado Fisherman Out There???

I went to 11 mile lake and canyon last summer. We didnt fish the lake as we were mostly fly fishing in the streams but saw some very impressive photos of very large lake trout taken from it. We went in August and the fly fishing was tough but the place is stunning to say the least. I will go back! I'm not sure if it's what you are after but it is worth a look. Look for a town called Lake George. Its about an hour west into the mountains from Colorado Springs. There is a real nice little set of cabins in town. We found it all by doing a Google search. Good luck.

My folks live in the Salida area and we've fished Eleven Mile and Antero a few times. I was looking at Turquoise Lake, Twin Lakes, and Blue Mesa. I might get over to Eleven Mile if the fishing is that good.

Tom, Like I said above. The fly fishing was tough at 11 mile canyon. Those fish have a lot of flys thrown at them. But it sure is a nice place. As far as the lake goes we didnt get a chance to fish it but it looked promising from the pictures we saw. If you have already been there then somthing new is good too. Post a report when you get back. I will look into the lakes you pointed out. May be taking the family there the summer.

Re: Any Colorado Fisherman Out There???

I will post results.

I look to fish about 30-50 feet down. This is all just a trial deal. I will also be fishing the banks from the boat. I have found in the past that fishing for trout in the high lakes has always been just out of reach from the bank. I get all the hits about 40 feet out (far for ultralight tackle)

I grew up fishing for trout in streams you can step across. Now that I am a flat lander, I have had to learn the other fishing arts. I still love fishing a high mountain stream or a calm beaver pond....... hang on I'm drooling again.

Deep lake fishing is new to me so this is all just a huge experiment. I am doing it cheap, so no down-riggers. Just thin line, weights, sensitive poles, and patience. We'll see.

Tom,

Granby is good for lakers in June. Thin line with weight (4-6 oz) that get you down 40-50 feet is all you need. If your up in south park (Eleven mile) give Jefferson a try. It is a really small lake at 10,700 feet, has some big lakers, ice out is late may so June fishing is really good. They feed a lot on stocked rainbows so anything 4-6 inches long that looks like a rainbow workds well.

Terre
