I am speaking of the pre-efi models with Yamaha powerheads running carbs. I
think this includes model years 2000-2005 even though Merc discontinued the use of model years last year. If you own one of these models, how has it performed and have you had any carb problems with yours?

I don't own one, but I work on them. Make sure the fuel is properly stabilized before storing and make sure that stabilized gas gets into the carbs. I also drain the carbs for storage. That might be a bit late considering winter is pretty much over. If you still have unstabilized gas in them from last season, they'll probably have to be rebuilt from varnishing.

They're good motors. They use 100Hp Yamaha powerheads, but Merc doesn't believe they produce 100Hp. That might be a matter of opinion, or it might be that Merc legs rob it of a that much power. I dunno.

Thanks Willy, your experience seems to back up many others, If you treat the fuel properly during winterizing and drain the bowls, they seem to hold up better.
