Hello Jason, you have probably answered this before but now I got to ask you again.

I've got a colony of sweet ants that are in my house the problem has been ongoing for awhile. Should I just nix the do it yourself approach and call the pros in? Should I call a local mom and pop or Orcon or Truly nolen. I have the money to do it right at the moment but I dont want waste it if possible.

I just had my house repainted and calked by a professional, so now at least the ants are coming and going non-stop thru the window cracks. I've never found the nest is. All other replys or advise welcome. Thx.

When I lived there I had the same problem, oj.

Had good luck with RAID ant baits. The foragers carry it back and feed it to the queen. Soon, no ants.

They work here, too.

I've had great luck with Grants brand ant bait liquid. Same concept as both above.

Re: ANTS! JasonJ help!

I get em regularly. I use liquid, borax based ant baits and they work, but it can take awhile (up to over a week).

When Terro used to make an arsenic based bait, it cleared out the ofending colony within 2 days max. Unfortunately, they switched to a borax based formula that is much slower.

Although I understand that the borax stuff is safer environmentally, it sure was nice to be able to get rid of the buggers almost overnight...

That's what I just found out, Terro had never taken more than a day or two, just a couple weeks ago it took a week or so to get rid of them.......

Re: ANTS! JasonJ help!

Sorry I took so long to reply, my schedule gets me all messed up, working nights and all. Anyway, despite the fact that I used to be a bug killer, I have always advocated Terro for the do-it-yourselfer. It does work really well. Also try to eliminate whatever is attracting them. Just remember, the colony is usually around 200,000 individuals with several queens, and some times it can take several applications of whatever treatment to eliminate them. Good luck, they can be a bear to get rid of....

Re: ANTS! JasonJ help!

From a quick Google search, the only common Arsenic based ant bait I found is Grants Kills Ants. All the other common ones now seem to be borax, borate, or boric acid based...
