Anti-theft lock for turn-knob style hitch???

I just purchased a tandem axle "Long" brand trailer for my 21' Aquasport. It doesn't have the flip-down locking lever like most hitches, but instead has the turn knob style that you use to lock the hitch onto the ball. I would like to put some type of anti-theft lock on this, preferably something I could use both when it is hooked to my vehicle and when it is unhooked and parked. I know that you can get those nifty little bars that slide and lock through the flip-down lever on the trailer hitch and also through the receiver pin hole on the vehicle. Is there anything like this for the turn knob? Thanks!

I believe I saw a hitch lock that was actually a ball with some kind of cam action which is locked into the trailer tongue.

Would this not still work will the knob style. At least while it's off the ball..<br /><br />Gorilla Guard Coupler Lock - 2 5/16"<br /><br />

<br /><br />BoatUS has them and possibly I-Boats for different size couplers.<br /><br />You may want to use this while on the ball:<br /><br />

Thanks again for the posts. RB, I'll probably go with something like that Gorilla lock. I'm hoping to find one locally, that way I can easily return it if it doesn't fit. I'll try to check some places next time I'm near the beach. The cable looks like a good plan too while it's on the truck. Maybe I can route it through some holes in the turn knob and around the trailer tounge, so they couldn't get more than a turn or so out of it. And, as that other post about boat theft mentioned, I'll probably purchase a good .45cal as another theft deterrent. Thanks again!

Hey Wes,<br /><br />I have the knob type hitch and I am planning on getting a master lock with the extra long neck loop thingy (I'm sure this is the technical term too). My trailer has brakes, so I'll be able to use the brake cylinder as a stop if some knot-head again tries to loosen the hitch while the lock is in place. I made sure a regular master lock fits through the holes on the trailer hitch knob.<br /><br />Simple genius, thought I. I amaze me sometimes.

You could buy one of those wheel locks (kinda like the "boot" N.Y. law uses) and it would work both with the trailer hooked or unhooked.<br /><br /> It's a slightly more expensive set up than what you are talking about, but it is a new trailer too.

Thanks Juan & Seaboo, both great ideas. Man, I got one of those boots on my car a while back, I was pissed! You aren't going anywhere with that thing, that's for sure. Juan, that is a pretty great idea you have there about the lock. My trailer has the surge brake actuator behind the hitch too, so if I get a lock with a long enough shackle and run it completely through the knob, it just may work. I'll probably look into that tomorrow if I get time. Thanks for the replies!
