How many places should water come out of my 97 force 120? It seems like every time Run this thing one the hose I notice a new place where water is exiting the the lower unit. In this picture is the most recent place I've noticed, is this normal? can someone please tell me the number of places it's normal for water to exit? IMAG0645.jpg

Re: Another water flow question

Technically, there should only be two places where water exits, the exhaust snout and at the idle relief exhaust (nostrils) at the mid-leg. The picture shown would indicate either the idle exhaust boot (in the mid-leg) is torn and leaking cooling water to the lower unit or the water tube from the impeller housing is cracked, misaligned and leaking water. With that amount of water I would focus on the water tube from the impeller housing. I wonder if you did some recent work on the lower leg?

I personal haven't done any work to the motor, I've only had it about a month. Can both the exhaust boot and the water tube be inspected by dropping the lower unit. Will I need any special tools or gaskets, and what should I avoid during removal and installation?

97 is a Mercury lower unit. There is no exhaust snout. There are, however a couple of places other than the thru-hub exhaust that water will exit.

Don't worry! your engine is normal.
