Another tach question?

I recently bought a OMC tachometer on ebay that I thought would work for my boat, however I am uncertain now. My motor is a 1974 Johnson 85hp. The new tach says 5 pulse on the front. There are several part numbers on the box that has been lined out. The number on the back of the tach is 174054 which I found on the box too, but has been lined out. Anyhow, I went ahead and conected it and it worked, however I am not sure if it is accurate. Will this hurt anything, like the rectifier?
I checked the back of the tach where you can change the pulse and it appears to not be adjustable. I can read the numbers and it looks like the circuit card is pointing towards the number 6, but I am unsure?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Another tach question?

It's not going to hurt anything by running it, but it will be inaccurate. The tach has to be set to run 6p. The tach is going to read a couple hundred rpm faster than actual rpm.
