Another new guy question. I have a 1959 Johnson Seahorse 10 hp (my first motor!!). What is the part called that the air/fuel line connects to on the motor. The person I bought it from said that part with the pins was broken and he connected the lines directly to the motor bypassing that part. the engine runs but I feel that Johnson put that part there for a reason. Just wondering what the name of that part is so I can look for a replacement one.

You mention fuel/air--does it have the twin hose pressure tank? If so, you may be in for a shock when you find out what the fuel connector costs (the half that goes on the tank hose). That's probably the real reason he doesn't have one.

Johnson put the connector there so the motor and/or tank could be removed from the boat.

So Its not really necessary? THe way he has it hooked up now will work and not cause any damage? And yes it is an air/fuel tank. From what I gauge it is just a quick connect/disconnect thing?

LukeB777,
There is no such thing as "Another silly newbie question".
It's best to ask an look silly than to not and get in trouble.

Good Boating,

it was just a convenience to remove the motor. rather than have the tank and motor connected together. the set male/female connectors run $80-$100 when you can find them. seaway marine.com, had some a couple of years ago. you could check there.

Or you can check the outboard graveyard at any local marina. They might have a dead one laying out in the weeds along the fence that could donate the connector for not much $$.

If you are looking for a female connector there is always one for sale on e-bay. I bought one yesterday for $27 shipped. New ones, if you can find one are around $80-100. Sometimes ya get lucky.

I'm pretty sure they only made one connector for all the dual line tanks.

Any dual line OMC connector will work. I didn't realise they were getting $30 for the female connection on eBay. I really need to start selling there!

The quick connect is only a convenience, but well worth the price if you need to remove the tank/motor from the boat. Place a free ad on the AOMCI.org website. Someone will sell you the parts for a reasonable amount.
