I have been talking with the wife for quite a while about upgrading our boat. I have had in mind for a long time joining the Starmada.

Right now we are in a 1973 Tri Hull, that is in immacluate shape with original gel coat on the floor even. I have completely overhauled the interior, and added a trolling motor and depth finder. I am thinking of selling it for

Starcraft boat

Now from what I understand the motor should be in running condition though it was put up 10 years ago. Which tells me it will need, a water pump plugs, probably a carb cleaning. I of course would verify compression, and spark before purchase.

The hull seems to be in decent shape, but of course this is what I lovingly call a field boat. Meaning that most likely it is going to need a transom, stringers, and floor.

So If I were to make an offer, what should it be? Should I even offer I have wanted one of these for a long time and they are hard to find.

Additionally I know the lumber, and epoxies are expensive, but I can get vinyl and padding wholesale. I also have a shop large enough to be able to work in.

Won't need stringers! They're aluminum.

I bought pretty much this same rig in similar condition for $1000. Asking price was $1800, which I would have paid but I would have wanted to test the motor. For $1000 I just hitched it up and drove it home. However, I got a real decent trailer with mine.

You should definitely buy it :D but for how much.....

I'm on the fence. The price is a little different on tinny's, but if that motor runs (it's been 10 years, right?) I suppose the price might be okay. If it doesn't run ... $1,000 feels pricey in East TN. I'm thinking $600.

That's a 1986 (ish) Starcraft SS.

Go for it!!!! The V-4 is a great outboard and that boat is nice even if it needs work. $1200 is his asking price....go negotiate!!

Well he turned down $750 and countered with $1000

10 years in a field. Tires are dry rotted, bearings might be froze, rusted trailer?

All the wood, upholstery and possible half the electrical and the mechanics are toast. Does the motor turn or is it frozen.

I think your offer was spot on, maybe even high. If some of the above is actually okay, trailer rolls and the motor rotates and you really really want it.

I'd counter with $800. :D

Y'know ... especially with THIS one for comparison, the fact that the other has been sittin' in the weeds for 10 years and you ain't 10 minutes from Norris Lake: let it sit for a week or three. Then offer him the $750 again. Knoxville just has too many boats around for that one to be attractive at that price to too many people.

Even if you miss this one, there'll be another soon enough. My 2? (we still have pennies).

Southkogs I hear what you are saying I do, but I have been looking for this specific make and model boat for a long time, I have even found a buyer for my Fiberglass Tri HULL with an ELECTRIC shift for $1100.00 Of course my boat is immaculate, with a SOLID original floor, and the Evinrude electric shift is in perfect running order with a spare lower unit, and spare solenoid.

Well, you are within $250 of each other. That's close if you really want that boat. I bet he'll meet you in the middle. Good luck.

Can't ever hurt to counter-offer! But if he won't budge, you really want it and it's your ideal, you can just pay the $1000 he's asking. No shame in a little negotiation! I don't know the market in your area, but I think you're in the ballpark.

That's the same position I was in. I was looking for that exact boat and was pretty much willing to pay the man what he wanted. It was an awesome bonus that I ended up getting a deal and super awesome that the motor ended up being a runner.

That said, I did pass on another one before I found mine. It was only a half hour away and was priced real low. I'm thinking like $400-600. When I got there though, it really had nothing going for it. The boat was real rough and was missing some pieces I felt would be tough to find, it had a big 'ol rough looking Chrysler outboard, and it was sitting on a sturdy but homemade trailer.

That's a deal changer, and I completely understand.

I bought my boat a few years ago not really quite knowing what I was getting, but I decided I could risk the cash investment even if I lost out completely and had to just scrap it. It worked out exceptionally well for me, but many folks would say it was a bad buy.

You found something you're looking for and the money is working out. Go have some fun man!

Well here is the rain on my Parade, For the first time in 3 years of ownership after pulling the boat out of the shop for winter the thing won't start. UGH, so I can't sell my boat to move the cash if I can't get it started. I will have the cash to buy the other one but I already have a pontoon and a ski boat my wife will kill me if I bring another one home before the ski boat is sold. I am pretty sure the starter is worn out in mine UGH which really bites. I replaced the brushes and bottom cap last year, and it lasted all season, but the insulation on the bottom of the armature is pretty cracked and looks nasty no salvaging it this time.
