not directly Starcraft related, but why you want to have positive flotation AND use good seamanship:

as Zack Thomas notes, it's amazing how big a wave a boat will take on the bow without flipping backward. it's even more amazing how little it takes to swamp one from the stern.....these guys backed down on the fish too fast, all moved aft at once, and got tangled up in cockpit.
this reminds me of that story from the Great Lakes Angler site about the author who sank the 2011 tinnie he was testing by swamping it from the stern. that boat went down in a few minutes despite supposedly having the USCG-required level flotation. don't trust the manufacturer to do any more than meet the barest letter of the law. it's not their family that drowns.........
