Another question

I looked thru the last 10 pages or so hoping to find the answers but I hadn't yet. My question is; when removing the housing from the lower gear case to replace the prop shaft seal and o-rings, does the housing unscrew? Because I seen on the housing 3 bolt holes leaving me to believe that might be meant for a wheel puller.

My second question; What parts in the drive determines what ratio it is?
The reason I ask is I had purchased a used sterndrive that came off a v8 and I have a 3.0 4 cyl. The lower gear housing was used from the v8 to put on the upper end of the existing drive. When I asked my Volvo mechanic about the ratio he didn't give me any clear answers.

looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Re: Another question

1. The housing unscrews for removal. The OEM manual (link below) has a complete section on the SX lower. Don't expect it to give you a how to on just replacing the seal. The manul explains how to rebuild the drive. You need to determine the steps you need to use.
Read them carefully and understand what you are doing before trying to take things apart.

2. The lower unit gears determines the gear ratio of the drive on Volvo drives.
