Is it prudent or necessary to retract the tilt rams when the engine is not in use to protect them from the salt. Should I use the tilt locks to take the pressure off the tilt rams when the engine is up out of the water and not in use. Should I be using those tilt locks at all?

I beleive that the tilt locks are primarily for trailering your boat. This takes the stress of a bouncing motor off of the tilt ram. I trailer my boat everywhere I go, so I am not sure about what is the best thing to do if you keep your boat in the water. As long as there is constant pressure and not any bouncing or movement, I would not think that you should have to worry about using the tilt locks.

Just my $.02.

Knightgang
