Whenever I open a link for a Windows Media Player event. like BoatBoy's XB35 in Chat, IE also opens a blank window in addition to the Media Player window.

It's just a small PITA, but causes you to have to close two windows when you are done viewing.

Re: Another IE 7 rant!

Hi Boomyal, interesting bug. Given that, In your opinion is IE7 worth the potential problems associated with new MS releases? MS Upgrade downloaded the IE7 upgrade and keeps nagging me to install it, but I'm hesitant given the usual problems with new MS software. Maybe I should wait until MS releases the expected bug fixes which usually cause more bugs, and on and on. Thanks, Ken

Speaking of bugs, most of this page is in German. on a positive side I learned that "Antworten" apparently means submit in German .

SS, I cannot comment on the overall viability of IE7 howerver this is the second time I have posted, what I guess would be considered minor issues.

My first one was regarding how they changed the header/tool bars. Example; I used to have the home page and refresh buttons, right next to each other on the same line. Now they are smaller and on two seperate lines. There was just no reason to make that change. Just change for changes sake IMHO!

They also could have put more functions on the "File/Edit/View/Favorites/Tools/ Help line and possibly even eliminated one of the three header lines.

I also do not understand this new Tab function. Seems to me to just be a duplicate to having more windows open.

Not IE 7, but iboats. The site that I borrowed that from doesn't open a blank window. Iboats default is to open links in a new window. If you right click the link, you
have the option to open in a new tab instead.

See, you do understand the new tabs function after all. 8)

Do yourself a favor, download and install FireFox.

Hi Boomyal, okay, thanks for the reply and thoughts. It looks like installing IE7 is not going to creat major problems.

Don't know about IE, but in OS X, you open a window, and then tabs within that window.

So you can open several windows, each covering a different topic, and have multiple tabs open within each window.

When you close a specific window ( or perform any function that effects the window), it closes all tabs associated with it.

It works great for opening multiple windows and tabs which you check often.

Store the sites in your favorites, open them in tabs, all the sites open at once, and you can close them individually, or as a group by closing the window.

Can you transfer your IE favorites to FireFox? and if you try it, is it easy to revert to IE if you want to?

Yup, sure can. In the install of Firefox, it askes if you'd like to import bookmarks, just click Yes.
When you run Firefox, it will ask if you want it to be your default browser, say yes. You can freely bounce back and forth between MIE and Firefox as you see fit.

Yup. Try it out. Give it a fair shake. You might like it. If not, unlike IE you can get rid of it. :)

btw Boom, In Firefox (and pretty much everything else except IE) "Favorites" are called "Bookmarks". Just thought I'd add that in case you were looking for them.

I love firefox, it too has multiple tabs. I can have iboats and photobucket running at the same time and switch between the two.

Also you can read news stories from two 2,3,4, or whatever publications while comparing and trying to ferret out the BS.

Ive had firefox for two years and havent had a good enough reason to go back.

Geeeez, tabs, tabs, tabs,! What's the big deal. Maybe I'm missing something. Prior to IE7 I could have infinite numbers of windows open at one time. Just click on the task bar and choose the one you want, or you could tile them or cascade them or whatever.

Tabs lets you have a bunch of windows open in one window so it's easier to keep up with. It cascades them for you inside one window if you will.

If you don't like tabs click on Edit->Preferences and you can make links open in a seperate window (eww) etc...

if FireFox is all that, why do I keep getting notes from CNET about problems with it?

Internet Explorer has had far more security problems than Firefox. This does not even take into account ActiveX which though a serious security problem is considered a feature.

OK, I'm trying it (FireFox2), but I don't get what all the ranting and raving is about. Oh well. :/
