MANAMA, Bahrain - A ferry carrying up to 150 people sank late Thursday in the Persian Gulf off the coast of Bahrain, the country's official news agency said. American divers and helicopters rushed to the scene. <br /><br />The vessel was on an evening cruise that was to last several hours when it overturned less than a mile off the coast, the Bahrain News Agency reported.<br /><br />The agency said Bahrain's coast guard boats arrived at the site and that rescue operations had begun. TV reports said there were casualties.<br /><br />Cmdr. Jeff Breslau, a spokesman for the Bahrain-based Navy 5th fleet, said the U.S. personnel were en route, but had no other details.

looks like they would fix them things where trucks and heavy stuff went in the bottom to stop the turning over stuff, even take on water for ballast.I know , it would burn more fuel with water ballast, cant have a lower profit can we.

Yep, looks like 13 Brits have been killed in this accident. BBC story here <br /><br />Seems it wasn't a ferry as per the last accident but a double decker dhow. The pictures on the news this morning certainly showed an old rickety pontoon-like boat.<br /><br />Amazed at how many perished when she was so close to shore and the response from US and UK navy and Bahrain CG was so quick
