This from a family member who currently trains Kurdish troops.
Turkish and Iranian special forces are currently deployed in the Quandil Mountains about 5 miles inside Iraqi territory and are fighting Kurdish troops.
The Turks and the Iranians are chasing Kurdish rebels from the PKK and PJAK who are holed up in the mountain ranges.
Strong rumor has it that the Turks are poised to take over Kurdish areas, while Iran has the same intentions.
The two countries seem to be in close contact.
The Kurds appear to eye striking at southern Turkey and Kurdish parts of Armenia.
Not quite as peaceful as some of the media try to make us believe.
The countries surrounding Iraq have mostly come to the conclusion that Iraq is desintegrating and they are preparing to move in and fill the void that will soon be left behind when the Americans leave.
Iraq was a part of Turkey until 1918.Ancient Iraq was part of the Persian empire.
I have the feeling that we aint seen nothing yet.

#2. Turkey is a member of NATO, do you really think the US doesn't know what Turkey is doing?
#3 Why would the Kurds be "eye striking" anywhere?... and especially into Turkey, which, if you haven't been paying attention, is part of NATO.
#4 Turkey and Iran, Allies?............ sorry, just got up off the floor.... wiping my eyes, and trying to work those cramps out I get when I LMAO!!!

If that is the case it will be intresting to see what happends. There seems to have always been one country in that part of the world looking to reclaim land from another and claim it as if it was theres all along.
I gess let the games begin.

And if the dems had their way, the games would have begun long ago. If we stay and finish the job, I don't think it will happen.

President Bush met with the Turkish leader today. Wonder what they talked about?

Probably about how Turkey, as a moderate Moslem county can help stabilize Iraq.... and about basing for US troops, NATO obligations, the developing problem between Russia and Georgia.... which incidentally, got fixed today.... Imagine that?

Georgia arrested a number of Russian "officers" for spying. Russia threatened to cut off electricity, pulled dips out, and was talking Mil intervention.... all is "kinda" rosy now.

How would I know?... but it might have been on the agenda because it is in that part of the world.... you just asked what they talked about, not inter-relationships 8)

Georgia is a "Western friendly country”
Russia isn't, but they might be coming our way... of course with reservations.
Turkey is a strongly NATO
Turkey is close to Russia geographically.
Russia is weak, and they know it.
Turkey is a strongly NATO
The USA supports Georgia.
Turkey is strongly NATO

Well if Turkey is so USA friendley, why couldn't we use their airspace to go into Iraq from the north. I trust them as much as I trust the french.

And as long as Putin is running Russia, no friend there either.
