Thanks for the input yesterday on eliminating the stage 1 feature of this choke the symptoms desribed fit this motor perfectly (heavy smoke at the launch and hesitation/stalling prior to full warm up) now I have 1 new question. The choke operates smoothly and both doors close tightly and evenly however there is no spring or other mechanism to pull the choke back to the open position. Originally when going from stage 2 full choke to stage 1 warm up choke the actuator would pull the choke back from full to partial choke due to the current transfering from the purple/white to the purple/yellow wire. Did this motor rely on the vacuum created by the carb draw to reopen the choke or is my motor missing some sort of pull off spring to return the chokes to full open?

There is supposed to be a spring under the plunger of that choke solenoid to return the choke butterflies to the open position. If it's there, I'd suspect that the solenoid isn't adjusted properly within its retaining clamp.

Spring is part number 314026, about $7.00. Should be available possibly at this site or at any dealership. If not, I have a couple left. Do not attempt to interchange with any other type spring.... it's critical.
