GetAttachment[1].jpgGetAttachment[3].jpgGetAttachment[2].jpgI searched old threds but didn't find the answers so I thought I shoul ask.

I just bought the boat and trailer separately and the trailer. The trailer seems to fit the boat ok but need som tlc.
The boat is a 1980 16' Lund Pro Agler with a 50hp Merc. tiller.
Where should they be located and how long should I make them. the old ones are only 30" long,I have 7' from the back of trailer to the next cross member.
Whats the best way for the bunk board to be set. so the boat is setting on 1.5" edge or on 3.5" edge.
should the bunks carry all the weight or on the keel rollers.

I'm sorta new to this boating stuff so could use some help.

Re: Another bunk question.

I've seen the bunks both on edge and flat. It depends on how far apart the supports are for your bunk boards. On my ShoreLand'r for my 20' Lund I only have 2 bunks, they are mounted flat and they are 8' long 2x6. I would suggest you use the longest board you can mount that will fully contact the hull. You say the old ones are only 30". That doesn't sound like enough UNLESS there are 2 in the rear and 2 farther forward. Maybe you could just add 2 up front? Pics would help too.

Steve R. your post is a bit confussing. Is this a bunk trailer or is this a trailer with keel rollers? If with keel rollers how many?

GetAttachment.jpgGetAttachment 2.jpgbonz_d , it has 2 short bunks in rear and 3 keel roller in center. and someone added 2 short 12" bunks up front but where they are it will dent the hull so I wanted to replace with 2 longer bunks about 7' long.

OK I see now.

Those 2 short bunks you have don't normally go there. Usually they are at the front of older trailers and are turned 90 deg. to form V bunks to support the bow. I actualy have 2 of those sitting in my garage unused from an old Gator trailer.

Adding longer bunks wont hurt anything and will add so support. That trailer was originally designed to be a keel roller trailer with most of the weight on the rollers and then balanced by the 2 pairs of bunks.

Is there another crossmember that you could add another roller to, or further out onto the tongue?

I am a big fan of these types of trailers, especially for aluminum boats. Many of these types of trailers also have a tilt bed feature to them. Does yours?

The trailer is a CamLock there is a lever that will lower and raise the bunks and is a tilt .
The only rollers are in the center.

Re: Another bunk question.

I have a very good idea of what you have now. I also know that you stated that you are having trouble posting pictures. The easiest way I've found is through photobucket.com, It's pretty easy and it's also free!

I know all the rollers are down the center. What I'd like to know is if there is a way or place that you could add a 4th roller. It would really help at least me if there were pictures of the trailer w/o the boat on it showing the whole trailer and where and how the bunks and rollers are mounted.

Have you used this setup yet? What issues are you having while using it?

BTW those are nice boats and your trailer will work just fine. Time for me to go night night, work 3rd shift.

Re: Another bunk question.

bonz_d , I used it only once and thought it loaded and launched hard compared to my little 14 footer.I bought the boat without a trailer and picked the trailer up off craigslist and it fit the boat ok but I thought should make it a better fit if poss.
I can put 7' boards on it and get rid of the other contraptions, and add some guide on bunks to the sides.
There is room to add another roller at the bow on the tounge and I might do that.
My question for the new bunks is should they be mounted on the inside or outside of the outer strake.
I'm going to lay the boards flat for more contact to the boat.

Re: Another bunk question.

Steve, I would leave the bunks right where they are as that is about where I had mine when I was still using a roller bunk trailer. Not sure you are going to gain any advantage by laying them flat. By doing it that way the boards will have more flex to them and the longer the board the more pronounced the flex becomes. Though longer will still be better. Also I've been hearing great things about Slic-Stiks. They go on top of the bunks and I guess replace the carpet. That might be another item for you to research to help loading and launching.
