OK, I've searched. Forgive me if this has been covered before.
I have a 19' Larson with a 5.7, Alpha 1 Gen II 1.5 ratio drive. Everything is either brand new or refurbished when I put it together.
Has new lower shift cable (aftermarket)
Quicksilver Controls, original to boat.
OK, so I completely rebuilt this boat and it originally had a 4.3 Mercrusier and Alpha 1 Gen 1 drive. It now has a "New" rebuilt marine 5.7 and new SEI drive. When I first took it out everything worked pretty well as far as shifting etc. When installing everything, I left all the shift adjustments as original and just put the brass barrel on the new lower shift cable where it fit as I never changed or disconnected the original main cable or moved it's position on the shift plate....in other words, I did not do an official shift adjustment procedure.
Was out on the lake a few weeks ago and it started to grind a little going into forward until eventually it would rev and flare going in, to finally not going into forward at all. A little on the lake moving the barrel here and there got us back to the dock ok.
Upon inspection at home, I found that I didn't tighten the 2 little square headed screws enough that hold the inner (lower) shift cable to the sleeve and it had moved.
Easy repair. Then I followed the adjustment procedure from the youtube video from "chrisa660" which I believe is the same achris on here ?? All my cable measurements such as play etc were spot on to his video.
Now to my problem.
Everything works great, except when shifting back and forth between forward and reverse, such as docking or loading on the trailer it will occasionally stall (starts immediately after). I know how the shift interrupt works and understand why you need it. Just wondering if this is something that sometimes just "happens" or should I be looking deeper ? I'm new to boats and have no idea what's normal.
Also, I found it odd that the adjustment to the barrel post that you can move up and down if needed to better engage reverse was always from appearance in the lowest position where you start the adjustment procedure. Now after adjustment I had to move the post up considerably for a clean reverse...where before my bonehead mistake it always slid into reverse like butter at the lowest setting.
Thoughts ?
Thanks in Advance.
