Finally got my motor started, but no water being pumped I assume since none coming out the hole on middle back of exhaust housing.I pulled the lower unit and found a bunch of debris from a mouse or chipmunk living in there.Which probably did not affect water flow from screen on lower unit.Pulled pump housing and the fins on impellar going wrong way,I gues in the past someone messed with it and turned flywheel wrong way,but looked like they should work but not sure? but will need replaced.I hooked a garden hose to copper tube and water came out a hole in tube above shift rod brass clamp. Is there supposed to be a hole there? Also, should water come out the hole on exhaust housing with the hose or anywhere else while flushing?

24 years working on those motors, and I doubt I've ever put a hose on the copper pipe. Sure it is remotely possible it is plugged up, but it is so highly unlikely.. You could throw a screaming cat through the large water passages.

What about the hole in the pipe above the brass shift linkage connection.?Is it supposed to be there?

Some of my motors have a small hole in the copper pipe also.. Someone told me that it is there to cool the exhaust housing.. I do not know if it is true but I seems to be made with a hole for some reason.

Thanks..Now to figure out why no water coming out anywhere except that hole?Must be a clog somewhere in that motor? Is it possible to back flush from that exit hole on back of leg so it comes out the copper tube?

i can see that hole being there to cool the housing BUT i have several of the mid to late 60's 22 cubers and the only one that has it is on a parts engine i bought for the long shaft extension. could it be just a long shaft thing?

Turns out there were remanents of mud daubers somewhere inside engine. I ran a coat hanger up on copper tube all the way then hooked up garden hose to tube and it flushed out and unplugged the engine did this about 10 times. Waiting now for a new fuel pump.

i know the 33 isn't a 22 cuber, i'm just saying that i bought a 69 18hp for parts that had a long shaft and the extended waater tube had the hole in it where as none of my other 6 22 cubers do not.

I beleve there were service bulletins to drill that wee hole on some models.----It is possible that one or more shops drilled tubes just because of that .
