Re: Anodes

Magnesium for freshwater
Aluminum for saltwater/brackish water.

Yep, magnesium for freshwater. Quicksilver puts little stickers on them that say "Freshwater Use Only". You'll know you are getting magnesium as opposed to Aluminum if the price is about twice as high. Sorry the magnesiums are just a lot more expensive.

Re: Anodes

FWIW my 18yr old Cobra still has the original anodes. I guess it's because the boat gets trailered when not in use.

My 'Ray stays in brackish water 2/3 of the year. The horseshoe zinc seems to take most of the beating. I get about 5 years out of it.

Re: Anodes

Wellll...let me rephrase this....this boat has twin 800 series OMCs...it stays in the water from april 1 until mid Oct.....the first few years i had it, i had stainless props and it would eat up a set of anodes in 1 season....i have since replaced those stainless props with aluminum props and can get 2 or more years from them.......but the set i put on this spring showed absolutely no signs of wear, except for an oddball one that i had in garage (it showed some corrosion and the new ones showed none)....i cannot find magnesium for 800 omcs.....so i need zinc or aluminum...whats best??
