This may be a stupid question but what exactly is the function of the anode on the lower unit gear case? Does it work with the trim tab?

Jason

Re: anode??

My boat was pulling pretty hard to the right. One of the things I had to do to fix it (Along with lowering the engine) was to replace that anode with a trim tab. They're two seperate pieces, but Mercury shipped the engine with the Anode instead of the trim tab....

Re: anode??

It simply prevents galvanic action (corrosion) by performing the ultimate sacrifice (sacrificial anode).

Re: anode??

An anode simply is a softer metal designed to sacrifice itself with corrosion; therefore, preventing other more important things from corroding. If you keep your boat in salt water for any length of time you need to ensure you are properly protected.

Re: anode??
