Anode Question

So I think I made a mistake, I heard my mechanic say I needed new zincs so i went out and got new zinc anodes and put them on the boat (bought it from iboats too). Later I found out that a lot of people refer to all anodes as "zincs", including my mechanic. So right now I have zinc anodes on my boat, replaced the previously and well used anodes that were on the boat. Unlike the PO I trailer my boat so the anodes were more of an eye sore than anything else. I boat in only fresh water and keep the boat in the water for at most a day or two if that long. I know I should have gotten magnesium anodes, what should I do any suggestions? Should I toss the old ones, buy some magnesium? I got them at the end of season and tossed the box, so I am unable to return them. There is no salt water body of water near me.

Re: Anode Question

Just a few days at a time in fresh water, I doubt you've got anything to worry about. My boat is a 1999 and I use it about like you use yours, and my zincs only have a very little bit of corrosion on them. You should be fine! Good Luck!

Re: Anode Question

As Robert stated, you don't need no stinkin anodes, (magnesium or zinc). Actually i think you did the right thing. Who wants ugly anodes. You have nice new clean ones, and will have them likely a long long time.

Re: Anode Question

Unless you are moored in the water for weeks or months on end, you have nothing to worry about.

Re: Anode Question

well it might help having zinc as we do get a lot of salt on the roads up here. Granted I don't trailer my boat around winter, but who knows.

Won't matter when you are towing.

Re: Anode Question

Whatever you have, always be sure to keep them shiny and clean using a wire bush etc. For them to work, they must be clean and in full contact with the water. never paint them.....
