I have a 2001 6.2 and Bravo 1. I have the standard Op and Maint. manual from Merc. As I read the manual there is no recommendation to remove a Bravo drive. Ever . . . I can reach all of the zerks and of course I am planning to change the lube. The same manual applies to the Alpha and although there is no specific recommendation to pull that drive either, of course you must to change the pump impeller every two years. So, here's my question:

Should I follow the book?

Re: Annual Bravo Maintenance

Aren't you supposed to check the engine to drive alignment every X hours? I don't think that requirement has ever gone away and doing so requires drive removal. Removing a drive is pretty easy, to be honest, that is until you find out how heavy that Bravo is... Be sure to remove the prop before you start.

You don't need to remove the drive on an Alpha to change the impeller, you only need to separate the lower gearcase from the upper gearcase or whatever it's called.

MM,

Never mind. I did find it in the book, every 100 hours or annually. Says:

"Inspect U-joints, splines and bellows. Check clamps, Check engine alignment. Lubricate U-joint splines."

I scanned right over it as it did not say "Remove" oooops, duh.
