A few years ago I was fishing with my teenage daughter and we got to just the place I wished to anchor. I instructed my daughter to throw the anchor overboard at exactly the right moment. <br /><br />You guessed it. She (and I) neglected to make sure the anchor line was connected to the anchor and down it went. The neighborhood had lots of fun suggesting that we rename the boat "Anchors Away"<br /><br />Don Marsh<br />Woolwich, ME

Last summer my son caught a 6 pound channel cat...it was the first fish of the day and i clipped it on my brand new stringer and tossed it over the side. Straight to the bottom as it wasn't attached to the boat...

Re: Anchors away

those rope stringers with the little metal spike are a joke. they might be good for a bream or two, but i've lost a couple with nice catches, by thinking they'd stay put in the bank  <br /><br />after that, when i was bank fishing i'd find a root, boulder, or whittle a big wooden stake to tie to. and it really hurts when its a stringer of nice trout you lose. :( <br /><br />i have a metal clip stringer also, but i've had a time or two when wading, and somehow, a fish got off and left me with an open clip...

Fishing with a freind once, I was kind of bored so I was watching him attach a lure to then end of a leader. Once he had the snap closed he tossed it into the lake. You guessed it, it wasn't tied to the line on his pole. I was laughing so hard I cried.

Re: Anchors away

I have never tossed a lure into the lake that wasn't tied on first. I do have a 4 yr old daughter that likes to play with all of daddy's lures and crankbaits, so naturally, all of my crankbaits have the hooks removed until I get to the fishing hold. You guessed it!!! I fished for almost 4 hrs one day without any hooks on a crankbait that has worked so many times I named it "Ol reliable". I had several big hits and couldn't for the life of me figure out why I couldn't set the hook. Needless to say, I now have a box that is for my daughter with the less than reliable crankbaits without hooks in it!

Re: Anchors away

Simmilar story. My buddy and I bought some spinner baits and headed out to use them. We both tied one on his chartruse and mine white. We both were getting bit but only I was hooking up. After his fourth strike with no fish he decided to put a trailer hook on to increase the chances of a hookup even though the snags were bad. It was then he discovered what I knew all along that the spinner bait had a hook guard on it and he was not getting hooked up because the hook point was covered. I had already removed mine before I made my first cast. Boy was he embarased but it made a great day for me because all I had to do was think about the look on his face when he discovered the hook guard. <br />Moral to this is always check your hooks on a new bait.
