Re: Anchoring an islander?
Climbing out on the bow isn't a problem as far as structure. Like airshot said you need to be carefull, the boat will tip to the side you are climbing on and more than likely have some water spray on it and will be slick. Then having to go back while holding on to the anchor dripping water and with one less hand.
What I do if I'm out fishing for perch and know that I will be moving a couple of times is, hook the anchor line to the bow eye and then hook a tag line that is about 15 foot long to the anchor line. Tie off the tag line to a cleat in back and then toss the anchor. When its time to move I pull on the tag line while I motor forward until I get the anchor line in my hand. Then I take it out of gear and pull it in. I put the anchor in the boat and then secure the anchor line so there is no slack in it. Then I will move and repeat as many times as needed, that way I only have to go out on the bow twice. Once to hook and once to unhook. I keep the anchor in a plastic bin when moving spot to spot as to keep down on the mud and muck that gets on it from getting all over.
