Ok, with all the anchor post that have been made, I wanted to see if the anchor I have are good,ok,or junk. I know I need to get chains for them, but I just worried if the anchors are good for lake boating. I will never ever take this boat to salt water. Oh, no great lake are in the plans either.

Thanks again guys!

Don't laugh at the ropes or the knots, they came just like you see. LOL

Re: Anchor help, Please!

The top anchor is fine for a stern anchor. Get a similar one but bigger for your main/bow anchor and you should be fine.

They look good, but it depends on the weight/size of the anchor VS the boats weight.

( for example-16 pound danforth=26-30 boat+-)

Re: Anchor help, Please!

We use an anchor like the top one for a stern anchor and/or lunch breaks, and we have a plough type anchor for overnighting. I believe "rocna" makes the absolute best plough type anchor but our "delta" works just fine. We've found that whatever bottom the one won't dig into, the other one will. We use a 7 kg plough with 40 ft of chain and 1/2' nylon line to scopes of 7 to 1 when possible. We're told this is way overkill but we've never dragged with our 23 ft older heavy boat, not even in storms. Cobalts are heavy boats so err on the side of safety.

I'm with you on overkill, but I went a slightly different route, I use a 10 kg Delta Plow and 15 feet of 1/4" chain in my rode for my 25 foot boat. I have never had any issues with it dragging, even in some serious blows. I do a lot of snorkeling and even when there's a 20 knot breeze, I'm pleased to note that the majority of my chain remains on the bottom.

Re: Anchor help, Please!

Top anchor is a Danforth knock off and I've never had much luck with them even as a stern anchor in sand, in protected freshwater. It would never stay put. Replaced it with a true Danforth and wow what a difference.

The bottom anchor is a Navy anchor and generally good for sand, however the ones I've used had a slightly different tang configuration.
