anchor chain size

25 foot cruiser clocking in at about 7200lbs. What size chain should I get for the anchor?

Does it have a windlass? You have to match it to that if you do.

What grub said. If no windlass, 1/4" chain and 1/2" line will be fine.

how you rig it (length, etc.) depends on how you will be using it. The "formulas" are for overnight unattended anchoring in open water in a storm (ie worst case). That may be an important safety factor for you.

And for safety reasons you need the worst-case rig if you boat near the NC ocean inlets; if you break down it is essential you stay put.

It should be no problem staying in NC inlets. Most are in such bad shape he will be on a sand bar.
