Anbody know where to get a replacement Guide Post?

I somehow managed to lose one of my PVC Guide on posts last season, however I can't seem to find a place that sells replacements. All I need is 1 PVC guide post, however all the stores that sell them seem to just sell them in pairs with the brackets. Does anybody know where I can get a single replacement post?
Thanks in advance!

Same place you can buy one shoe, Brett.

A lot of stuff comes in pairs and getting just one means a junkyard.

Go to Home Depot or Lowe's and buy a piece of PVC pipe that you can use. They should even have a cap you can put on the top.

I believe the PVC tube just slips over the metal post. Why not head to your local home improvement center and buy a piece of Schedule 40 PVC pipe. Comes in 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2- inch diameters. Cuts with a saw of any type. Put a plastic cap on the top and your done. Cost will be a couple of bucks.

Looks like everyone was typing at the same time. At least we all agree.

Yeah, i tried doing that a while back, but I couldn't find any decent caps for the PVC. The only ones that they had at my local home depot were plumbing caps that didn't look all that great. Maybe I will try a differant hardware store. thanks!

You might find rubber caps at some of the bigger hardware stores. Otherwise, buy a PVC plumbing cap and cut out the very top so it fits inside the pipe and cement it in place. Takes a little work but would work ok.

Change them both so they match. Different brands have slightly different outside shape.

If it really bothers you, cut some white plastic sheet in a circle and glue it on top of the post. There is no pressure to worry about.

Hey thanks JB. I never thought of going to a junkyard to buy a shoe.
I lost a PF Flyer back in 74, and have been looking for a matching replacement ever since. Will let you know if I find one. :D

So, you gonna drive over to the get-together? You know you want to.

why do you need to cap the top of the PVC pipe? if the top and bottom are both open, everything will drain right out correct?

i just bought a brand new trailer and it doesn't have guide posts on them. i was to cheap to spend the extra money when i figured i could make them my self. what is the best way to attach them to the trailer?

Gfried. I used a couple of u-bolts on each bracket. Used 1 1/2" PVC, from 3 feet, it looks just like a factory job. Even mounted the lights up there for better visibility.

Re: Anbody know where to get a replacement Guide Post?

I am making some out of square tubing and am having a hard time finding an ID of 1 5/8". Do I need to go bigger and fill it in with some foam or something? I'd like to hang my lights on it too. Will just using pvc be strong enough? I don't think it would. Any help... thanks.

If you are using 2" PVC, it will be plenty strong enough. I made light brackets by cutting a flat piece of aluminum for the lights to attach to, then I notched the other end where it would allow a section of the aluminum to go inside the PVC (exactly all the way across the inside diameter, then I notched the PVC to correspond with the aluminum notch. When the PVC cap is slid down over the PVC, it locks the metal into place. You have to make sure to run a ground wire to the mounting plate.

Thanks studlymandingo. I was just worried the pvc would crack and not have enough support. I'd hate to be driving down the road trailing wires with lights attached. lol

What I mean by cracking.

Can I take pvc, make an elbow connection for a right angle and bolt it directly to the trailer?
Would the vibration crack it? Is there supposed to be a metal tube or bracket the pvc tube slips over? I looked at trailers, but it's hard to see. Can't tell from advertisements. One I did check out at a dealer had metal under it.
