I went to a free lunch and concert the other day and met several old friends (6 years older than me) and they wanted to know how I was doing with not working for a living.

1. I have nothing that has to get done that day, and by noon I'm half finished.:p

2. Have gone on numerous trips, some with the wife, some not. New Orleans for a redfish trip last year and 3 times to Minnesota. Twice to Lake Barkley and any dang day I want to on the Ohio river or the lakes nearby.

3. 450 mile trip to my home place in Virginia to see relatives and bury loved ones. Five trips there since Jan 2008

4. Only 3 trips to Arkansas to see the grandkids. We gotta do more of that.

5. Today I decided to really clean out my Stratos bass boat. Emptied all the locker compartments and completely washed it down and waxed it. It got a little hot this afternoon so I stopped the cleaning detail. Hey, I can. I can finish it tomorrow. Just a few more minor details to finish the "detail" cleaning.

6. I have no set time to wake up or go to bed. I wake up when I'm "refreshed" and go to bed when I'm tired. I do try to stay on a normal schedule but after 15 years of working third shift, my normal is not what you'd think.

So that, my friends, is how Tyme2fish is handling quitirement. No pension, no government checks, no handouts. All expenses are paid from my savings.

Wouild I do it again in the next life? You betcha. Only I'd do it sooner.:D:D

Now all the rest of you suckers keep working because I want my Social Security checks in 2 more years.

dont forget to mow the grass time, no that you have time .
Its a tough life, but somebody has to do it. My days are spent fishing or preparing to fish, some days I just plan the next fishing trip.
If I want to stay up late, so what, I DONT HAVE TO BE ANYWHERE. Sometimes I log in to iboats and see whats up!

i've been retired since 1988, i did all that, now have to stay busy. i worked part time for a while, then decided to restore boats, now have an at home, J/E service business. but i still don't have to punch a clock, and only answer to myself. customers, get the answer 'it will be ready when it is right.'

Less than 5 years to go for me. Planning to retire from the rat race at 55. Mrs Ken, myself and a couple of the children may well open up a campground on a lake with a few rental cottages and boat rental etc etc. We are looking for possible land currently.

Retirement works very well when you stay busy. Its when you don't maintain a relatively full schedule that you get bored and reduce your life expetancy considrerably.

Here's to more time to go fishing!

Congrats tyme. I'm glad to see all is well and that your staying busy. My wife will be retiring in 5 years but I will have to work until, well, my demise. For those who can do it, enjoy it. For those who can't, like me, enjoy the weekends. :)

Yep, retirement is AWESOME! I retired unexpectedly 2 years ago (disability) and had major stress for a year in dealing with stuff.

After that, it was gravy and nowadays life is grand!

Totally diggin' every minute of it!

Congrats! Enjoy it. I've been unemployed for months and I'm still working on the to-do list. I think the only way to finish the to-do list is the add "burn this to-do list" onto the list.
