I own a 18ft bowrider, so I've got space, but it's limited. I don't have enough space to make a whole box for it. So moving on, I'm looking for a small affordable amp and sub for marine use, i will be putting a cover on it so it dosent get wet. I have 4 arc speakers with a basic single din dual receiver. All the wiring was done by a marine I bought it from. My question is should I add a amp/sub or should I upgrade my whole system? My reciver is a 4x50 watt max output. Please need suggestions before winter rolls in.

Re: Amp/Sub help!

Well, I'd go with one of two options:

1) add a Bazooka-style sub which would be compact and easy to install

2) add a 10-12" sub in a sealed box, with a mono amp, probably between 200-400W RMS.

It really depends on what you are after. Either of those options will give you some bass, with the second option being significantly better in terms of up-side. However, you may quickly outrun your speakers because the HU is only putting out 15-22watts RMS, not 50watts. It limits the amount you can "crank it up" without getting the speakers distorted. The sub will overpower the main speakers at that point, and you'd need to look at getting a second amp to compensate. It's really up to you on how far you want to go with it.
