Wikipedia:

"...Paul, and the OCC, have been the defendants of a number of legal actions. Claims from former employees, including Cody Connelly for a bike he was apparently given on the show but never got to keep as well as unauthorized use of his name and likeness. The popular sub contractor Justin Barnes whose original designs were copied on merchandise without his permission and appropriate compensation (Case 09-cv-04914-CS 05/26/2009) [5]. But most significant is a lawsuit in 2007 alleging fraud, brought on behalf of Turner Construction (Paul Sr, Paul Jr and Daniel are named in the petition) [6]. This dates back to 2003 and a ruling in favor of Turner in 2005 [7] concerning the original OC Iron Works company. It is alleged that assets were stripped from the OC Ironworks. Transferring the viable assets, contracts and personnel to a new company OC Ironworks LLC, before bankrupting the former. OC Ironworks LLC is owned entirely by Daniel Teutul (a third son). This involved transferring the ownership to Paul Jr and selling the assets with unfair compensation to the new company. Not to feel left out of the legal merry-go-round, Paul Sr. has filed a lawsuit against Paul Jr. to force him to sell his share of OCC as per an agreement. The suit also includes a claim for $1 million for damages for misappropriation of assets and "competitve business activities."

Steroids: You can file this with Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, Roger Clemens and numerous other entertainers' files who've used steroids, but one of the things not talked about all that much is the use of steroids by SR., and possibly JR, which led to a lot of the hostility and aggressive 'off-the-charts' behavior... the rages, violence, destruction, etc.

Those who know... well... we know.

The thing to remember is that these are "reality" shows. Even before TV; reality was never meant to be taken seriously.

Re: American Chopper Jr. vs Sr.

Sometimes I wonder if these reality shows become victims of their own success. How much of the drama in the shows becomes "encouraged" by the producers, etc.........?
I've seen several shows that were interesting to watch in the beginning, because of the tension among the players, only to clearly have the drama amped up to keep the interest in the audience.
Not saying that is happening with this show, but it often makes me wonder.
Gotta successful show, then they gotta keep up the ratings somehow.

Classic examples are Judge Judy- she's become an absolute witch. Every little thing gets her going on a tirade. So has Gordon Ramsay. Before he just spouted off a bit, now he throws temper tantrums and has dishes and food flying over relatively nothing.

I don't wonder, I know. These are all scripted. "We need more drama! More tension! Gotta keep the audience interested!"

Ice road Truckers is a classic example. The first year or two, they showed the guys doing their jobs, explained how they did it, the difficulties they encountered, the history of how it all got started (really interesting), and then they said, "Whoa! We need some drama! Some tension!"

So they came up with drivers competing for number of loads hauled, drivers getting into disputes with dispatchers/other drivers, rogue drivers endangering the operation, exaggerated claims of danger, more trucks going through the ice to prove that danger, etc, etc, etc.

Dangerous catch pretty much went the same route. They all do. Bottom line, all reality TV is pretty much fake.
