Amber side marker lights crazy

Just installed a complete LED trailer kit. Everything works great except the two side marker lights. When I step on the brakes they go out. When I use turn signals they flash off as the tail lights flash on. I have a ground wire from each tail light to the frame in addition to one at the front attached to the frame behind the coupler. Any suggestions?

I used a multi-meter to ascertain which wire was hot when wiring up the side marker lights. With the tail lights on, they worked. So I connected them and sealed them with the dielectric type dope. Getting frustrated.

I had the same problem a few months back. It turns out my vehicle connector wasn't grounded good. I cut the ground wire running from the trailer plug to the vehicle wiring harness plug, put a 5/16" round connector on it and attached it to a bolt on the bumper. Problem solved by establishing a good ground from the trailer system to the vehicle system.

Thanks, but I already did that. Both on the bumper and on the trailer itself in 3 places. I think the ground is covered, thats why its so frustrating.

I know you've covered this but it does sound like a ground issue. Using an OHM meter takes all the guess work out of whether or not your ground connections are good.

Aldo

Ok, back to square one. I have an ohm meter.

Try a secondary ground in both spots, use a wire with alligator clips, and try other ground areas until you hit one that will turn them on. If not, then check the wiring again.

Will try that as well. Thought I might remove the connectors and solder the wires at the point in question as well.

Success!

Even though the quick connects were firmly closed and making contact, when the ground wire was tested in a secondary spot as suggested by NYMINUTE, everything settled down and worked properly. Would have wagered the farm on those connections. You never know I guess. Everyone was correct. Thanks for the input. Now to go dunk em in nice salt water.

Ha I bought a new to me used truck and I hooked up the boat to check the lights to be sure the truck was working properly. Not a darn light worked. Checked plug got 1 turn signal. Fixed the two burned fuses on truck no help! It ended up being the ground on the trailer! And I had just installed these new lights and they functioned fine on the other truck. It might have been when I pulled away from trailer and forgot to unhook lights you think?
